The short term goals of the Health and Fitness Workgroup are as follows:
- Disperse information at fitness conventions
- Create marketing strategy/informational campaign targeting managers and owners
- Avoid resistance from managers and owners:
- Focus on low-cost options
- Have contact with facilities and assist in changes
- Offer free accessibility consults
- Educate fitness centers on need of long-term rehab/post-rehab programs
The long term goals of the Health and Fitness Workgroup include:
- Development of a mechanism to educate the public about this issue
- Addressing the motivational issue to teach facility providers (group homes, assisted living, residency facilities, etc.) to build a network to support people with disabilities as they age and address issues related to secondary conditions, maintaining employment, etc.
- Formation of partnerships with individuals and groups interested in Kinesiotherapy, physical therapy, veterans, etc.
- Development of models to reach out to fitness professionals and encourage professionals to reach out to PWD
- Creation of socially interactive programs (1-on-1 attention) and creative programs with options
- Reaching out to the untapped market of “health seekers" who are looking for independence after rehab
