The National Release of the Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicators

Will you be attending the 2011 APHA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC? Then join us as the Assistant Secretary for Health, Dr. Howard K. Koh, calls on the nation to take action on this decade's high priority health issues. The Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicators will be launched on October 31, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Washington Convention Center.

The 26 indicators, organized under 12 topics, were selected from the set of Healthy People 2020 objectives and align with other key priorities within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and across the Federal government. These indicators will be used to assess the health of the U.S. population over the decade, to facilitate collaboration among diverse groups and to motivate individuals and communities to take action to improve their health.

2011-2012 New York City Community Impact Grant

These grants will provide seed money for projects of community-based organizations located in and serving the New York City area. Awarded projects will help further the goal of our organization by specifically focusing on improving the cardiovascular health of youth. Grant proposals can be focused on any of the following topics with a clear justification of how they improve the cardiovascular health of youth in our communities: health assessments, nutrition/eating habits, physical activity, systems change in schools, and health equity. Any non-profit group or organization that is located within the five boroughs of New York City may apply. A total of $125,000 has been allocated for grant distribution. The maximum award will be $25,000.

2013 Conference on the Value of Play: Taking Action!

The Conference on the Value of Play attracts a wide range of attendees, including medical professionals (including doctors), educators, parents, play professionals, people working in parks and recreation, landscape architects, psychologists and many more. The conference also attracts attendees from across the globe.

World Sport Chicago Scholarship

World Sport Chicago (WSC), the legacy organization of Chicago 2016’s Olympic and Paralympic Bid, created the World Sport Chicago Scholarship Program to reward Chicago high school student-athletes for their demonstrated commitment to athletics, academics and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.  Up to 50 Chicago high school juniors will receive Kaplan ACT tutoring and a year-long Chicago Scholars mentoring program, which guides students through the college application process.  The WSC Scholars will also have the opportunity to interview for one of 10 renewable college scholarships worth up to $5,000 annually ($20,000 total), supported by WSC and Chicago donors.
